After You File: What Happens Next
Once we’ve submitted your tax return, here’s what you can expect. We keep everything simple, clear, and stressfree so you always know where you stand.

1. Watch for IRS Acceptance
The IRS first needs to accept your return.
This simply means they received it and it passed basic checks.
•         Efiled returns: Usually accepted within 24 hours
•         Paperfiled returns: Can take up to 4 weeks
Once accepted, your return officially enters the IRS processing system.

2. Track Your Refund Status
You can check your refund anytime using the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool on IRS.gov.
You’ll be able to see:
•         Return Received / Accepted
•         Refund Approved
•         Refund Sent
The IRS updates this tool once per day, usually overnight.

3. IRS Processing Stages (What Each Step Means)
Accepted
The IRS has your return and it’s in line for processing.
No refund date is issued yet at this stage.

Approved
The IRS has finished reviewing your return and confirmed your refund amount.
This is the moment they assign your refund date.

Refund Sent
The IRS sends your refund to your bank or mails your check.
Your bank may take additional time to post the deposit.
Most refunds are issued within 21 days after the IRS accepts your return — as long as there are no delays or additional reviews.
Some returns may take longer if:
•         Information doesn’t match IRS records
•         Identity verification is required
•         You claimed certain credits (EITC/ACTC)
•         The IRS selects the return for manual review

4. When to Expect Your Refund

If the IRS needs more information or if there’s a delay, they will send you a letter. This is normal and does not mean your refund is denied. We’ll help you understand any notice you receive.

Reasons for Possible Delays:
• Identity verification
• Missing or mismatched information
• Certain refundable credits (EITC/ACTC)
• Manual review by the IRS
